Yeh et al. (1987) reported the cloning of a cDNA from a human liver library using polyclonal antiserum to human acid phosphatase isoenzyme 2a/4. This isoenzyme is the major phosphatase of the human prostate. Sharief et al. (1989) isolated and sequenced cDNA clones encoding human prostatic acid phosphatase from a prostatic cDNA expression library established from benign prostatic hyperplasia. Tailor et al. (1990) reported the complete coding sequence of the ACPP gene. The open reading frame encoded a protein of 342 amino acid residues with a calculated molecular weight of about 50,000 daltons.
