Bout et al. (1991) characterized the human peroxisomal 3-oxoacyl-CoA thiolase, or ACAA (acetyl-coenzyme A acyltransferase), gene. They reported that there are 2 peroxisomal thiolase genes in rat, but only 1 in human. Sequence analysis revealed that the deduced 424-amino acid human protein shares 87% sequence identity with rat peroxisomal thiolase. See also sterol carrier protein-2 (SCP2; 184755), the second peroxisomal thiolase to be identified.
