Edgar and Polak (2002) cloned mouse Abhd1, which they called Labh1. The deduced 412-amino acid protein has a central core predicted to form alpha/beta hydrolase folds and has a ser-ala-his catalytic triad characteristic of peroxidases. By database analysis, the authors identified human ABHD1, which encodes a deduced 405-amino acid protein that shares 79% amino acid identity with mouse Abhd1. Real-time PCR detected Abhd1 in most adult mouse tissues examined, with highest expression in liver. Abhd1 was also expressed at all embryonic stages examined. By searching databases for sequences similar to mouse Abhd1, followed by 3-prime RACE of a lung cDNA library, Edgar (2003) cloned human ABDH1. The deduced protein has a predicted molecular mass of 45.2 kD. Real-time PCR detected ABDH1 in all tissues and cell lines examined, with highest expression in skeletal muscle, testis, and liver.
