ESCs are capable of unlimited self-renewal by symmetric division. ESCs are pluripotent stem cells that have the ability to proliferate indefinitely in vitro in the undifferentiated in vitro and in vivo to cell types representative of all three primary germ layers: mesoderm, endoderm, and ectoderm. In other words, ESCs can develop into each of the more than 200 cell types of the adult body. HESCs cell line is often used in Immunofluorescence / IF / ICC test.

Immunofluorescence staining of OCT4 in HESS9 cells. Cells were fixed with 4% PFA, permeabilzed with 0.3% Triton X-100 in PBS,blocked with 10% serum, and incubated with rabbit anti-human OCT4 polyclonal antibody (1 µg/ml) at 4℃ overnight.
