Molecular Mass:

The recombinant human BST2/Fc is a disulfide-linked homodimer. The reduced monomer comprises 372 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 41 kDa. The apparent molecular mass of the protein is approximately 51 kDa in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions due to glycosylation.

Formulation: Lyophilized from sterile PBS, pH7.4.

TETHERIN / BST2 / CD317 Protein Description

Tetherin also known as bone marrow stromal antigen 2 and BST2 is single-pass type Ⅱ membrane protein with an extracellular coiled coil domain forms a long semi-flexible rod-like structure important for virion retention at the cell surface and prevention of virus spreading. BST2 predominantly expressed in liver, lung, heart and placenta and low levels in pancreas, kidney, skeletal muscle and brain. This protein is found overexpressed in multiple myeloma cells. It is highly expressed during B-cell development, from pro-B precursors to plasma cells, and on T-cells, monocytes, NK cells and dendritic cells. BST2 is involved in the sorting of secreted proteins and in pre-B cell growth. As an antiretroviral defense protein, BST2 blocks release of enveloped virus from the cell surface. Active against at least four virus families: retroviruses, filoviruses, arenaviruses, and herpesviruses. BST2 is discovered as an inhibitor to HIV-1 infection in the absence of Vpu and it inhibits the release of other viruses such as the Lassa and Marburg virions.
