REG3D / INGAPrP Protein Description
REG3D, also known as regenerating islet derived III delta, islet neogenesis-associated protein related protein and INGAPrP, is an 20 kDa member of the REG family of secreted calcium dependent C-type lectins. REG proteins are involved in various biological functions, including acting as a survival / growth factors. REG3D mRNA is expressed mainly in pancreatic islets and the digestive system. Regenerating gene (Reg), first isolated from a regenerating islet cDNA library, encodes a secretory protein with a growth stimulating effect on pancreatic beta cells. Reg and Reg-related genes which were expressed in various organs have been revealed to constitute a multigene family, the Reg family consisting of four subtypes (types I, II, III, IV) and are involved in cancers and neurodegenerative diseases.
