> TIM1 (KIM-1, HACVR1) TIM1 (KIM-1, HACVR1)
Human HAV cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1), also known as Kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) and T cell immunoglobulinmucin 1 (TIM1), is a type â… integral membrane glycoprotein. TIM1 protein is widely expressed with highest levels in kidney and testis. It has been shown to play a major role as a human susceptibility gene for asthma, allergy and autoimmunity. IgA1lambda is a specific ligand of TIM1 protein and that their association has a synergistic effect in virus-receptor interactions. TIM1 involves in the pathogenesis of acute kidney injury. It had been confirmed that TIM1 is a human urinary renal dysfunction biomarker. Moreover, TIM1 protein is a novel regulatory molecule of flow-induced calcium signaling.

Summaries for TIM1 (KIM-1, HACVR1)
Entrez Gene summary for HACVR1:
The protein encoded by this HACVR1 gene is a membrane receptor for both human hepatitis A virus (HHAV) and TIMD4. TIM1 may be involved in the moderation of asthma and allergic diseases. The reference genome represents an allele that retains a MTTVP amino acid segment that confers protection against atopy in HHAV seropositive individuals. Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]
Wikipedia summary for TIM1:
Hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the HAVCR1 gene
Human TIM1 (KIM-1, HACVR1) Protein General Information
| Protein names |
T-cell membrane protein 1, TIM-1 |
| Sequence length |
359 AA. |
| Induction |
Up-regulated in the kidney in renal diseases (at protein level). |
| Sequence similarities: |
TIM1 belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. TIM family. TIM1 contains 1 Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain. |
| Polymorphism: |
Infection by hepatitis A virus (HAV) protects individuals from atopy if they carry insertion of the variants Met-Thr-Thr-Val-Pro-157 and Met-Thr-Thr-Thr-Val-Pro-157. Modernisation has led to a reduction in HAV seroprevalence and thus, may be, to an increase of expression of atopy, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis. Allelic variation does not affect HAV-infection rates in Caucasians, Asians and African Americans. |
| Miscellaneous |
The extracellular part of the protein can be cleaved and detected in urine and is in correlation with the expression in the kidney. |
| Subcellular location: | Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein |
| Tissue specificity |
TIM1 is widely expressed, with highest levels in kidney and testis. TIM1 is expressed by activated CD4+ T-cells during the development of helper T-cells responses. |

Function for TIM1 (KIM-1, HACVR1) Protein
UniProtKB:
TIM1 may play a role in T-helper cell development and the regulation of asthma and allergic diseases. TIM1 is receptor for TIMD4. In case of human hepatitis A virus (HHAV) infection, TIM1 functions as a cell-surface receptor for the virus. TIM1 may play a role in kidney injury and repair.
