Influenza A/swine/Guangxi/13/2006 (A/swine/Guangxi/13/06) Background

Influenza A virus is capable of rapid genetic change in mammals. In humans, the need to escape preexisting immunity exerts positive selection pressure on changes in amino acids comprising the antigenic sites of the surface glycoproteins, hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). H1N2 is a subtype of the species Influenza A virus (sometimes called bird flu virus). It is currently pandemic in both human and pig populations. The pattern of illness seen with the A(H1N2) virus is expected to be similar to disease caused by A(H1N1) viruses. The virus does not cause more severe illness than other influenza viruses, and no unusual increases in influenza activity have been associated with it. The new A(H1N2) strain appears to have resulted from the reassortment of the genes of the currently circulating influenza A(H1N1) and A(H3N2) subtypes. The hemagglutinin protein of the A(H1N2) virus is similar to that of the currently circulating A(H1N1) viruses and the neuraminidase protein is similar to that of the current A(H3N2) viruses. Because the H1N2 virus has the hemagglutinin of the currently circulating H1N1 virus and the neuraminidase of the currently circulating H3N2 virus, most people will have been exposed to and have antibodies against these viruses. A/swine/Guangxi/13/2006 was the first triple-reassortant H1N2 influenza A virus isolated from a pig in China.

Sino Biological Inc offers Recombinant Hemagglutinin Protein from the A/swine/Guangxi/13/2006 (H1N2) for research aim.
