Influenza A/green-winged teal/ALB/199/1991 (A/green-winged teal/ALB/199/91) Background

Influenza A viruses are negative sense, single-stranded, segmented RNA viruses. It can infect people, birds, pigs, horses, seals, whales, and other animals, but wild birds are the natural hosts for these viruses. Influenza type A viruses are divided into subtypes based on two proteins on the surface of the virus. These proteins are called hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). Influenza hemagglutinin (HA) is a type of hemagglutinin found on the surface of the influenza viruses. It is an antigenic glycoprotein, and is responsible for binding the virus to the cell that is being infected. Nine subtypes of influenza neuraminidase are known; many occur only in various species of duck and chicken. Neuraminidase enzymes are glycoside hydrolase enzymes, which cleave the glycosidic linkages of neuraminic acids. Subtypes N1 and N2 have been positively linked to epidemics in man, and strains with N3 or N7 subtypes have been identified in a number of isolated deaths. H12N5 is a type A Influenza Virus, which cause Avian Influenza, or called as bird Influenza.

Sino Biological Inc offers Recombinant Hemagglutinin Protein from the A/green-winged teal/ALB/199/1991 (H12N5) for Influenza research.
