Influenza A/duck/NY/191255-59/02 (A/duck/NY/191255-59/2002) Background
Influenza, commonly referred to as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae (the influenza viruses), that affects birds and mammals. There are three types of Influenza virus: Influenza A, B and C. Influenzavirus A is a genus of the Orthomyxoviridae family of viruses. Influenza A viruses are negative sense, single-stranded, segmented RNA viruses. There are several subtypes, labeled according to an H number (for the type of hemagglutinin) and an N number (for the type of neuraminidase). There are 16 different H antigens (H1 to H16) and nine different N antigens (N1 to N9). “Bird flu” , also known as “Avian flu”, is a phrase similar to “swine flu”, “dog flu”, “horse flu”, or “human flu” in that it refers to an illness caused by any of many different strains of influenza viruses that have adapted to a specific host. All known viruses that cause influenza in birds belong to the species influenza A virus, and all subtypes (but not all strains of all subtypes) of influenza A virus are adapted to birds. H5N8 is a subtype of the species Influenza A virus (sometimes called bird flu virus). A highly pathogenic strain of H5N8 called A/turkey/Ireland/1378/83 caused a minor flu outbreak in 1983 in Ireland in turkeys.
Sino Biological Inc offers Recombinant Hemagglutinin Protein from the A/duck/NY/191255-59/02 (H5N8) for research aim.
