Summaries for Cyclophilin A

Entrez Gene summary for Cyclophilin A:

PPIA gene encodes a member of the peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) family. PPIases catalyze the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides and accelerate the folding of proteins. The encoded protein is a cyclosporin binding-protein and may play a role in cyclosporin A-mediated immunosuppression. The protein can also interact with several HIV proteins, including p55 gag, Vpr, and capsid protein, and has been shown to be necessary for the formation of infectious HIV virions. Multiple pseudogenes that map to different chromosomes have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Wikipedia summary for Cyclophilin A:

Peptidylprolyl isomerase A also known as cyclophilin A or rotamase A is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PPIA gene.

Human Cyclophilin A Protein General Information

Protein names

Cyclophilin A

Sequence length

165 AA.

Enzyme regulation

Binds cyclosporin A (CsA). CsA mediates some of its effects via an inhibitory action on PPIase.

Sequence similarities:

Belongs to the cyclophilin-type PPIase family. PPIase A subfamily.
Contains 1 PPIase cyclophilin-type domain.

Catalytic activity:

Peptidylproline (omega=180) = peptidylproline (omega=0).

Subunit structure

Interacts with HIV-1 Capsid protein.

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm.

Function for Cyclophilin A Protein

UniProtKB:

PPIases accelerate the folding of proteins. It catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides.

Genatlas:

  • Cyclophilin A is major intracellular receptor for the immunosuppressive agent cyclosporin A, with intrinsic peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase activity
  • Cyclophilin A is likely involved in HIV-1 replication
  • HIV-1 entry depends on an interaction between virus-associated CyPA and CD147 on a target cell
  • Cyclophilin A regulates the infectivity of HIV-1 virions
  • Cyclophilin A plays a role in the functional expression of NCX1 protein
