Carboxypeptidase A2

Carboxypeptidase A2 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CPA2 gene. Three different forms of human pancreatic procarboxypeptidase A have been isolated. The A1 and A2 forms are monomeric proteins with different biochemical properties. The A2 form of pancreatic procarboxypeptidase acts on aromatic C-terminal residues

Summaries for Carboxypeptidase A2

Entrez Gene summary for Carboxypeptidase A2:

Three different forms of human pancreatic procarboxypeptidase A have been isolated. The encoded protein represents the A2 form, which is a monomeric protein with different biochemical properties from the A1 and A3 forms. The A2 form of pancreatic procarboxypeptidase acts on aromatic C-terminal residues and is a secreted protein.

OMIM - description for Carboxypeptidase A2:

Catasus et al. (1995) obtained the cDNA by screening a human pancreatic expression library with antibodies to the protein. The full-length cDNA encodes a deduced 417-amino acid protein, which includes a short leader sequence and a 94-amino acid long activation segment. The human CPA2 protein shares 89% similarity with the rat CPA2 protein (Gardell et al., 1988) and 64% similarity with human CPA1 (114850). The A2 form of pancreatic procarboxypeptidase acts on aromatic C-terminal residues, in contrast to the A1 form, which shows a preference for the aliphatic C-terminal residues of peptide substrates. See also pancreatic carboxypeptidase B (114852).
