CSAG1 / CSAGE Protein Description
Putative chondrosarcoma-associated gene 1 protein (CSAG1 or CASGE) is a member of a family of tumor antigens. This protein is expressed in chondrosarcomes, melanoma, but may also be expressed in normal tissues such as testis and cartilage. In other nomal tissues, CSAG1 / CSAGE has not been detected. It has been reported that CSAGE / CSAG1 belongs to the growing list of cancer / testic antigens as well. In all of the CSAGE positive samples, the melanoma antigen gene family was also expressed and this is the first report on the expression of cancer / testis antigens in chondrosarcoma. There are two isoforms produced by alternative splicing. One is CSAG1a, whose encoding gene has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in CSAG1 refers to it and the other isoform is CSAG1b.
