CLP1 / COLEC12 Protein Description

CLP1, also known as COLEC12, belongs to the Clp1 family. Clp1 subfamily. It is a component of the cleavage factor IA (CFIA) complex, which is involved in the endonucleolytic cleavage during polyadenylation-dependent pre-mRNA 3'-end formation and cooperates with the cleavage factor NAB4/CFIB and the cleavage and polyadenylation factor (CPF) complex. As a scavenger receptor, CLP1 displays several functions associated with host defense. It promotes binding and phagocytosis of Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and yeast. CLP1 mediates the recognition, internalization and degradation of oxidatively modified low density lipoprotein (oxLDL) by vascular endothelial cells. CLP1 contains 1 C-type lectin domain and 3 collagen-like domains. It is strongly expressed in placenta and moderately expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, small intestine and lung.
