CCL24 / Eotaxin-2 / MPIF-2 Protein Description

CCL24, also known as Eotaxin-2 and MPIF-2, is a member of the CC chemokine family. Cytokines are a family of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The CC cytokines are proteins characterized by two adjacent cysteines. It is produced by activated monocytes and T lymphocytes. CCL24 is selectively chemoattracts for the following cells: eosinophils, basophils, Th2 T cells, mast cells, and certain subsets of dendritic cells. It is strongly chemotactic for resting T lymphocytes and slightly chemotactic for neutrophils. CCL24 is a strong suppressor of colony formation by a multipotential hematopoietic progenitor cell line and binds to CCR3. Eotaxin-2 also inhibits the proliferation of multipotential hematopoietic progenitor cells. Eotaxin-2 has been shown that elevated levels of eotaxin-2 has been seen in patients with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD), such as asthma. People with lower plasma levels of eotaxin-2 have not been showing tendency to develop aspirin inducible asthma.
